NHTSA campaign 19V080000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Lakota Corporation: Equipment › Other › Labels

Lakota Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 11, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 300. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Lakota Corporation (Lakota) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Lakota Bighorn, Charger, Colt and Livestock Edition trailers. The affected vehicles have incorrect tire data listed on the Federal Placard, possibly resulting in the tires being overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply to with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110 "Tire Selection and Rims," as well as 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

If the vehicle is loaded to the limit provided on the label, the tires could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Lakota will notify owners, and dealers will provide new placards with the correct weight capacity data listed, free of charge. The recall began March 18, 2019. Owners may contact Lakota customer service at 1-574-848-1636.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V080000.
