NHTSA campaign 18V937000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Arcimoto Inc: Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Arcimoto Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 31, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Arcimoto Inc (Arcimoto) is recalling certain 2017 FUV motorcycles. The affected motorcycles were built with a front/rear split brake system instead of a left/right split brake system. In the event of a front brake system failure, the rear brake system may not allow the vehicle to meet the minimum stopping distance requirements. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 122, "Motorcycle brake systems."

The risk

If the brakes cannot stop the motorcycle within the distance required, there is an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

Arcimoto has contacted the owners and will replace the existing brake lines with new brake lines that have an updated design, free of charge. Owners may contact Arcimoto customer service at 1-541-683-6293. Arcimoto's number for this recall is 7F7-P2S8D-12.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V937000.
