NHTSA campaign 18V811000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Volvo Trucks North America: Tires

Volvo Trucks North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 15, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 103. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2019 Volvo VNL and VHD trucks, equipped with Bridgestone M854 tires with date codes 2418-2518, Bridgestone M860A tires with date code 2518, and Bridgestone M864 tires with date codes 2318-2418, all of size 425/65R22.5. The sidewall steel body cords may be exposed, possibly causing unexpected, rapid air loss during use. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires - Other than Passenger Cars."

The risk

Rapid tire air loss can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Volvo will notify owners, instructing them to take their vehicles to Bridgestone Tire or Volvo Truck service centers for inspection and replacement, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1803.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V811000.
