NHTSA campaign 18V364000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer › Lpg Systems › Tank Assembly

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 1, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 612. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Eagle, Eagle HT, NorthPoint, Pinnacle, Talon and Seismic fifth-wheel recreational trailers. The strap that secures the liquid propane (LP) gas bottle may separate from its buckle and no longer secure the propane tank.

The risk

An unsecured propane tank could detach from the trailer and increase the risk of a crash or leak propane and increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the propane tank securing strap with a new strap that has the correct crimping, free of charge. The recall began on July 27, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901385.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V364000.
