Navistar, Inc.: Seat Belts › Front › Anchorage

Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 3, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 18,665. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International WorkStar, DuraStar, LoneStar, LT, ProStar, RH and IC Bus HC, 2018 International TranStar, 2019 International HV and MV trucks and transit buses. The front driver and passenger seat belt anchor D-ring bolt may break in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

The risk

If the D-ring bolt breaks during a crash, the seat occupant may not be properly restrained, increasing their risk of injury.

The remedy

Navistar has notified owners, and dealers will replace the D-ring bolt depending on the information found on the seat belt label, free of charge. The recall began May 23, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 18505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V293000.
