NHTSA campaign 18V249000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 19, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 68. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Coachmen Spirit recreational trailers, models SBT2963BH and SBT2342BH. The outdoor cooktop may have been installed without an liquid propane (LP) quick disconnect.

The risk

If the cooktop does not have an LP hose quick disconnect feature and the cooktop is placed into the vehicle while still connected to the LP supply and with the LP hose in the ON position, users may be exposed to Carbon Monoxide. Additionally, the escaping propane gas may increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the LP supply line and relocate it with a quick disconnect LP fitting, free of charge. The recall began on June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8205. Forest River's number for this recall is 220-0691.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V249000.
