Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer
Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 23, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 157. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Forest River XLR Toyhauler recreational trailers, models XLT25KW, XLT25KW-W, XLT28KW and XLT28KW-W. The safety chains on these vehicles do not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the trailer.
The risk
If the trailer becomes uncoupled, the existing safety chains may fail, allowing the trailer to separate from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the safety chains with chains that exceed the vehicle's GVWR, free of charge. The recall began on March 13, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0432. Forest River's number for this recall is 45-0645.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V134000.
