NHTSA campaign 18V128000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Electrical System › Wiring

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 21, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 10. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018 Crossfit vehicles, models CFB22CF, CFB22CFEB and CFB22DF, built on Ford Transit chassis equipped with a trailer tow module. Water can enter the tow modules and corrode the wiring causing issues such as rapidly flashing turn signals, loss of instrument panel display, an electrical short and possibly the deployment of seatbelt pretensioner.

The risk

An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire. Turn signal, instrument cluster or seatbelt pretensioner problems can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River has notified owners, and Ford or Lincoln dealers will add a drainage hole in the driver's door stepwell and incorporate a fuse into the vehicle's wiring harness, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8590 or Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Forest River's number for this recall is 225-0647.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V128000.
