NHTSA campaign 17V846000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Antilock/Traction Control/Electronic Limited Slip

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 28, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 52. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Georgetown recreational vehicles, models GTA31L5, GTA31R5, GTA369XLF, GTA36B5, GTA36B5F, GTA377XLF, GTA378XLF, built on Ford chassis and equipped with Antilock Brake Systems (ABS). The brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) on these vehicles may be missing valve block ball plugs, potentially causing a brake fluid leak or air ingestion during electronic brake distribution and/or ABS activation.

The risk

A brake fluid leak or air ingestion can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and Ford or Lincoln dealers will inspect the HECU for missing valve block ball plugs, replacing the unit as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 26, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or Forest River customer service at 1-574-206-7600. Forest River's number for this recall is 68-0606.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V846000.
