NHTSA campaign 17V800000 · Part 573 safety recall report

East Manufacturing Corp.: Suspension › Rear › Axle › Non-powered Axle Assembly

East Manufacturing Corp. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 13, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 93. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Frame Dump trailers built with a pintle hook or brackets for the future installation of a pintle hook. Cracks may develop in the cross member that the pintle hook is connected to, possibly resulting in the cross member failing.

The risk

If the cross member fails, vehicle handling would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

East will notify owners, and dealers will weld any cracks and install reinforcing plates to the cross member, or replace the cross member, as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2017. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-9921.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V800000.
