NHTSA campaign 17V743000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Grand Design RV, LLC: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Grand Design RV, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 21, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 114. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2018 Reflection travel trailers, model 297RSTS. These vehicles may have insufficient clearance between the tire and the ram that moves the slide out room. The tire can contact the ram for the slide out room while the trailer is being towed, causing tire damage or a possible tire blowout.

The risk

Tire failure can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will install a lift kit at each of the axle hangers, giving two additional inches of clearance. Tires that show evidence of damage will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on December 14, 2017. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910011.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V743000.
