NHTSA campaign 17V698000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Phoenix Motorcars: Wheels › Rim

Phoenix Motorcars reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 3, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 45. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Phoenix Motorcars (Phoenix) is recalling certain 2015 Zeus 300, and 2015-2017 Zeus 305 shuttle vans built on a Ford E-350 chassis. When the vehicle is fully loaded, it may exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires-Other Than Passenger Cars," and number 120, "Wheels and Rims-Other Than Passenger Cars."

The risk

If the vehicle is loaded to its maximum passenger capacity, the rear tires may fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Phoenix will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace all of the vehicle wheels and tires with ones of a higher load rating, free of charge. The recall began on December 27, 2017. Owners may contact Phoenix customer service at 1-909-987-0815.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V698000.
