NHTSA campaign 17V673000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Keystone RV Company: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 25, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,890. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Keystone Cougar western edition recreational trailers. The stabilizer jacks may not have been properly welded to the chassis frame, possibly resulting in the jacks detaching from the trailer during transit.

The risk

If the stabilizer jacks separate during transit, they could be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the mounting of the four stabilizer jacks and install appropriate fasteners, free of charge. The recall began on December 5, 2017. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 17-306.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V673000.
