Polar Tank Trailer, LLC. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 27, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Polar Tank Trailer, LLC. (Polar) is recalling certain 2018 SRJ7 trailers manufactured with Meritor MTA/MTP trailer suspensions. The brake caliper bolts on these axles may not be properly torqued which can allow the caliper to detach from the mounting flange.

The risk

If the caliper bolts are improperly torqued and the caliper detaches from the mounting flange, a loss of braking ability would occur, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Polar has notified the vehicle owners, instructing them to check the caliper bolts per the supplied bulletin, receiving reimbursement from Meritor. The recall began on October 4, 2017. Owners may contact Polar customer service at 1-320-746-2255 or Meritor at 1-866-668-7221. Polar's number for this recall is C17AB.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V604000.
