NHTSA campaign 17V603000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Wabash National Corporation: Structure › Body

Wabash National Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 27, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 73. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain 2012-2013 converter dolly trailers. The affected trailers have fasteners connecting the counter weight tube to the body that may wear and/or loosen over time allowing the detachment of the counterweight tube from the converter dolly body while in motion.

The risk

Detachment of the counter weight while the dolly is in motion can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Wabash will notify owners, and dealers will weld the counter weight permanently to the structure, free of charge. The recall began on October 12, 2017. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V603000.
