NHTSA campaign 17V596000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Structure › Body › Roof and Pillars

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 22, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 10. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014 Starcraft Bus Prodigy School Buses. The affected buses were assembled with an inconsistent application of adhesive to the roof panels. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 221, "School Bus Body Joint Strength."

The risk

Without a consistent application of adhesive, the panels may separate in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the joints for the proper amounts of adhesive, fixing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 9, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-800-348-7440. Forest River's number for this recall is 05-0527.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V596000.
