Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 18, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 33. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018 Prime Time recreational trailers, models WCF32WB, WCF34WB, and WCF37WB. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on the Federal Placard is listed as 6,160lbs when the axle is only rated for 6,000lbs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

The incorrect GAWR may cause the vehicle to be overloaded and the axle to fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect Federal Placard and Cargo Carrying Capacity label, free of charge. The recall began on September 8, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0432. Forest River's number for this recall is 61-0506.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V514000.
