NHTSA campaign 17V422000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 30, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 104. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017 Hummingbird travel trailers, models H13C0567-0603, 0608-0636, 0638-0662, and H13E0052-0110. The labels on the affected vehicles incorrectly state that the vehicle is equipped with 14" load range D tires requiring 65 PSI, when the vehicle is actually equipped with 14" load range C tires requiring 50 PSI. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

The risk

The incorrect information on the label may result in the tires being over inflated, which could lead to their failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and will provide corrected labels, free of charge. The recall began on July 13, 2017. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901357.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V422000.
