NHTSA campaign 17V407000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Lance Camper Manufacturing. Corp.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Lance Camper Manufacturing. Corp. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 28, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 42. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Lance Camper Manufacturing. Corp. (Lance Camper) is recalling certain 2018 Lance Travel Trailers equipped with adjustable utility receivers sold as optional or aftermarket equipment. The receivers may have insufficient welds and, as a result, things connected to the receiver such as a bicycle rack may not be properly positioned.

The risk

If components such as a bicycle rack are not properly supported, they may contact the road, possibly resulting in road debris, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Lance Camper has notified owners, and the owners will be refunded for their purchase once the receiver is returned. As an option, customers may instead get a bike rack that goes on the front of the travel trailer, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2017. Owners may contact Lance Camper customer service at 1-661-949-3322.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V407000.
