Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 23, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,414. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Coachmen RV Encounter recreational vehicles, and 2014-2018 Coachmen RV Mirada and Mirada Select recreational vehicles equipped with the residential refrigerator option instead of the standard refrigerator. The unused, but powered, wiring for the standard refrigerator was left with exposed wire ends.

The risk

If the energized positive wire and negative wire make contact, the wires may sort circuit and possibly melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the positive and negative wires from the battery, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8212. Forest River's number for this recall is 310-06212017-0455.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V396000.
