NHTSA campaign 17V339000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Keystone RV Company: Equipment › Other › Labels

Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on May 24, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 464. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Springdale recreational vehicles, model 303BH. The Federal Identification Tag on these vehicles overstate the Gross Axle Weight Rating capacity (GAWR) by 800lbs for each axle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

The incorrect GAWR makes the Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) label incorrect and may result in the vehicle being overloaded, affecting the vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will provide a new Federal Placard with the correct GAWR and a new CCC label, free of charge. The recall began on June 20, 2017. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 17-289.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V339000.
