NHTSA campaign 17V259000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Stoughton Trailers, LLC: Suspension

Stoughton Trailers, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 19, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 4,188. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Stoughton Trailers, LLC (Stoughton) is recalling certain 2017-2018 DAVW and DVW 285S dry van single-axle trailers. The outside welds that attach the front suspension hangers to the subframe may crack, allowing the front hanger to detach.

The risk

If the hangers detach, the axle assemblies will break loose from the trailer causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Stoughton will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front hanger for cracks, repairing them as necessary. Dealers will also install gussets inside the subframe, free of charge. The recall began on July 17, 2017. Owners may contact Stoughton customer service at 1-608-873-2500.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V259000.
