McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc.: Fuel System, Other › Delivery › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 23, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 130. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. (McNeilus) is recalling certain 2013-2015 HD REL-11, REL TG TAG-12, MA-42, M-44, ZR-48, AR-49, and Pacific LoPro FEL-88 Refuse Trucks, equipped with compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems by Agility Fuel Systems. The affected CNG systems have flexible stainless steel, sleeved, high pressure hoses that may corrode from exposure to environmental conditions such as water mixed with road salt.

The risk

Corrosion of the fuel hose may result in a CNG leak, which in the presence of an ignition source, may increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

McNeilus will notify owners instructing them to contact Agility to have the defective hose assemblies replaced free of charge. The recall began on April 28, 2017. Owners may contact Agility customer service at 1-949-267-7745 or contact McNeilus customer service at 1-888-686-7278. McNeilus' number for this recall is Agility 16E-092.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V199000.
