NHTSA campaign 17V184000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Nissan North America, Inc.: Steering › Hydraulic Power Assist › Hose, Piping, and Connections

Nissan North America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 16, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 56,766. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Nissan North America (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Murano and Murano Cross Cabriolet vehicles. The power steering hose clamp may not adequately secure the hose, allowing the hose to detach and leak power steering fluid.

The risk

If the power steering fluid leaks onto a heat source such as hot engine or exhaust components, there could be an increased risk of a fire.

The remedy

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a power steering high pressure hose kit, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V184000.
