NHTSA campaign 16V939000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Nissan North America, Inc.: Air Bags › Frontal › Passenger Side › Inflator Module

Nissan North America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 28, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 509. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017 Infiniti QX30 vehicles manufactured August 11, 2016, to September 27, 2016. The affected vehicles have a passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The risk

A passenger air bag that fails to deploy in the event of a crash can increase the risk of injury.

The remedy

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on March 21, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V939000.
