NHTSA campaign 16V927000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Volvo Trucks North America: Suspension › Front › Hub

Volvo Trucks North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 22, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 16. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2017 Volvo VHD, VNL, and VNM trucks manufactured February 19, 2016, to June 21, 2016. The affected vehicles were built with front wheel hubs that cannot support the gross axle weight rating of the front axle.

The risk

Overloaded front wheel hubs can result in premature failure of the hubs, bearings, and the related components, which can cause the front hub assembly to separate from the front axle. Because of this, the driver may lose control of the vehicle or parts may be dropped on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hub assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on February 16, 2017. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1607.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V927000.
