NHTSA campaign 16V811000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Tires › Temporary/Emergency Spare Tire

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 8, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 111. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Riverstone Legacy fifth wheel recreational trailers manufactured October 7, 2016, to October 18, 2016. The spare tire and rim combination on the affected vehicles may be incompatible with the disk-brake hubs, preventing the rim from mounting flat and flush to the hub face.

The risk

If an owner installs the spare wheel that was provided with the trailer, the lug nuts may fail, allowing the wheel to detach, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the spare rim and tire assembly, free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-367-3269. Forest River's number for this recall is 70-10312016-0263.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V811000.
