Forest River, Inc.: Suspension › Rear › Axle › Non-powered Axle Assembly
Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 20, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 8. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2017 Cedar Creek recreational trailers manufactured September 8, 2016, to September 19, 2016. The axles installed on these vehicles were incorrectly identified as having a 7,000 pound capacity when they were only rated and designed to carry up to 6,000 pounds.
The risk
The owner of a vehicle with the incorrect axles could unknowingly overload the vehicle, possibly resulting in a loss of control or reduced braking distance, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
All affected vehicles have been captured at the dealer level and are being repaired prior to sale. Therefore, an owner notification letter will not be issued for this campaign. Dealers will replace the axles that are rated for a 7,000lb capacity. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-593-4000 extension 20209. Forest River's number for this recall is 20-10112016-0255.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V762000.
