NHTSA campaign 16V742000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Supreme Corporation: Structure › Body › Hatchback/Liftgate

Supreme Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 14, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 44. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Supreme Corporation (Supreme) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Spartan Service Body, Signature Van, Iner-City and Kold King vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with equipped with Thieman Tailgates-brand TVL 12/16 series lift gates supported with roller chains that may fail.

The risk

Failure of either the street or curb side roller chain would result in that side of the platform falling immediately to the ground without notice, causing an uneven surface and increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Supreme will notify owners, and Thieman dealers will inspect and repair the lift gates, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 22, 2016. Owners may contact Supreme customer service at 1-800-842-4889.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V742000.
