NHTSA campaign 16V669000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Starcraft RV: Equipment › Other › Labels

Starcraft RV reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 15, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 40. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Starcraft RV (Starcraft) is recalling certain model year 2017 AR-ONE MAXX LE trailers, model 19BHLE, manufactured August 25, 2016, to September 6, 2016. The Federal label on the affected vehicles states that the trailers are built with two axles, each with a 2500 pound capacity, however, the vehicles are only built with one 2500 pound capacity axle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

The trailer would be overloaded if the operator goes by the listed axle capacity, possibly resulting in axle or tire failure, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Starcraft has notified the dealers who have the trailers quarantined and will provide them with a corrected Federal label, free of charge. The recall began September 19, 2016. Owners may contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787. Starcraft's number for this recall is 9902319.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V669000.
