NHTSA campaign 16V659000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Wabash National Corporation: Structure › Frame and Members

Wabash National Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 13, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2,466. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Con-Gear Converter Dolly Trailers manufactured March 31, 2014, to August 6, 2015. In the affected trailers, the frame may crack on the counterbalance leg weld seam or the top plate.

The risk

The cracks may progress and result in the counterbalance leg detaching while the trailer is being used, possibly causing the counterbalance leg to be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Wabash will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the dolly for cracks, and add welds and weld plugs on the inboard side of the counterbalance legs. If welding will not resolve the issue than the dolly frame will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on September 26, 2016. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404. Wabash's number for this recall is LEG201603.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V659000.
