NHTSA campaign 16V587000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Outdoors RV Manufacturing: Trailer Hitches › Fifth Wheel Assembly

Outdoors RV Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 9, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 140. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Outdoors RV Manufacturing (ORV) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Glacier Peak fifth-wheel travel trailers. The affected trailers have a pin box that may flex resulting in metal fatigue and possibly the separation of the fifth-wheel trailer from the tow vehicle.

The risk

If the fifth-wheel separates from the tow vehicle there would be an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

ORV has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the pin box, reinforcing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 26, 2016. Owners may contact ORV customer service at 1-541-962-1866 extension 222. ORV's number for this recall is 2016-001.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V587000.
