NHTSA campaign 16V523000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Manac Inc.: Parking Brake

Manac Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 11, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 4. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

MANAC, Inc. (MANAC) is recalling certain model year 2016 Flatbed trailers manufactured September 1, 2014, to September 30, 2014, and 2017-2018 Van trailers manufactured January 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016. These trailers are equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves which may have been improperly machined which could cause a delay of application of the spring brakes while parking.

The risk

If there is a delay of the spring brake application, the trailer may roll away after it has decoupled from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The remedy

MANAC will contact owners and provide a remedy kit, complete with instructions, to repair any affected SR-5 trailer relay valves, free of charge. The recall began on September 2, 2016. Owners may contact MANAC, Inc. at 1-418 228-2018.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V523000.
