NHTSA campaign 16V469000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Thor Motor Coach: Vehicle Speed Control › Accelerator Pedal

Thor Motor Coach reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 27, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 487. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Tuscany motorhomes manufactured February 28, 2013, to August 31, 2015. The throttle pedal position sensor on the affected vehicles may not return to zero, causing the engine brake to suddenly not activate as expected, reducing the vehicle's deceleration ability.

The risk

A sudden loss of an engine brake without warning on a motorhome may lead to a reduced brake capacity, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

TMC will notify owners, and dealers for Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), manufacturer of the motorhome chassis, will replace the throttle pedal, free of charge. The recall began on July 15, 2016. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020 or Daimler Warranty Campaign Department at 1-800-547-0712 or by email at [email protected]. TMC's number for this recall is RC000119.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V469000.
