NHTSA campaign 16V455000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Winnebago Industries, Inc: Vehicle Speed Control › Accelerator Pedal

Winnebago Industries, Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 22, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 705. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Winnebago Tour motorhomes manufactured May 25, 2013, to November 25, 2015, and Itasca Ellipse motorhomes manufactured May 25, 2013, to November 18, 2015. The throttle pedal position sensor on the affected vehicles may not return to zero, causing the engine brake to suddenly not activate as expected, reducing the vehicle's deceleration ability.

The risk

A sudden loss of an engine brake without warning on a motorhome may lead to a reduced brake ability, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Daimler Trucks North America has notified owners, and dealers, will replace the throttle pedal, free of charge. An interim notification was distributed to owners on July 8, 2016. The recall began on August 15, 2016. Owners may contact Daimler Warranty Campaign Department at 1-800-547-0712 or email [email protected].

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V455000.
