NHTSA campaign 16V427000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Vermeer Manufacturing Company: Parking Brake › Conventional › Air

Vermeer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 13, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 11. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 TG5000 vehicles manufactured November 23, 2013, to May 23, 2016. The assembly instruction manual for these vehicles called for the wrong slack adjuster pushrod length to be used, and as a result, the pushrod threads may fail, causing the trailer parking brakes to unintentionally engage.

The risk

If the trailer brakes unintentionally engage it would increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will reset the air brake pushrod length to the correct dimension, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2016. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-641-628-3141. Vermeer's number for this recall is IK3334.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V427000.
