The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Dutchmen Kodiak recreational trailers manufactured June 10, 2015 through April 6, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the two sections of LED rope lights that serve as backlighting for the countertop each have exposed ends which may short against each other, possibly resulting in an electrical short.

The risk

An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Keystone notified owners, and dealers will install a heat shrink tube over one of the LED rope light ends, free of charge. The recall began on June 8, 2016. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 16-255.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V402000.
