NHTSA campaign 16V388000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Terex Advance: Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine › Diesel

Terex Advance reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 1, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 21. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Terex Advance (Terex) is recalling certain model year 2016 Front Discharge Mixer trucks manufactured March 31, 2016, to May 9, 2016 equipped with a Cummins ISX12 or ISX15 engine using certain engine control modules (ECM). These ECM's may experience an internal electrical short that can cause a fuse to blow, resulting in an unexpected engine stall without the ability to restart the engine.

The risk

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Cummins will notify owners, and dealers will replace the existing ECM with a new ECM, free of charge. The recall began on July 8, 2016. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357 or Terex customer service at 1-800-433-6691.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V388000.
