NHTSA campaign 16V353000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Rosenbauer Motors: Seats

Rosenbauer Motors reported this defect to federal regulators on May 25, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 25. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Rosenbauer Motors (Rosenbauer) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Commander vehicles manufactured January 2, 2012, to May 16, 2016. The affected vehicles have Battalion air suspension seats that may separate from its base in a frontal collision. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

The risk

If the seat detaches from its base in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury to the occupant.

The remedy

Rosenbauer will notify owners, and dealers will attach two tethers from the seat to the cab, free of charge. The recall began on July 11, 2016. Owners may contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V353000.
