Altec Industries Inc.: Equipment

Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 16, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 63. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 DL and DM Digger Derricks manufactured October 1, 2014, to April 30, 2016 with the digger booms mounted in the corner. The rotation bearing fasteners on the affected vehicles may not have been properly torqued.

The risk

If the fasteners are loose or improperly torqued, structural failure may result, causing unexpected movement of the digger derrick and increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Altec has notified owners, and instruct them to perform the annual torque inspection, free of charge. The recall began June 2, 2016. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 633.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V307000.
