NHTSA campaign 16V304000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 16, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 241. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2016 Jay Flight SLX recreational trailers manufactured March 3, 2016, to April 20, 2016. The bolts that secure the propane tank to the trailer's A-frame may be missing lock washers, allowing the propane tank to loosen and detach from the vehicle.

The risk

If the propane tank detaches from the trailer, there is an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will install the lock washers to the two bolts that secure the propane tank to the A-frame, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901298.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V304000.
