NHTSA campaign 16V281000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Turtle Top: Seats

Turtle Top reported this defect to federal regulators on May 10, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2016 Odyssey transit buses manufactured December 17, 2015, to March 29, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with seats that may separate from the base frame due to bolt failure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection", and 213, "Child Restraint Systems."

The risk

In the event of a crash, the seat can separate from the base frame, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

The remedy

Turtle Top will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seats, free of charge. The recall began on June 22, 2016. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-574-831-4340. Turtle Top's number for this recall is 16E-037.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V281000.
