NHTSA campaign 16V153000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Lakota Corporation: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Lakota Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 15, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 15. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Lakota Corporation (Lakota) is recalling certain model year 2016 Bighorn and Charger recreational vehicles manufactured from March 5, 2015, through March 20, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the screws that attach the expanding room to the sliding mechanism cable may fail allowing the room to extend unintentionally while the vehicle is in motion.

The risk

If the room extends while vehicle is in motion, there is an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

Lakota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the bolts, free of charge. The recall began on April 8, 2016. Owners may contact Lakota customer service at 1-574-848-1636.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V153000.
