Setra of North America: Seats
Setra of North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 20, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 91. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Setra of North America (Setra) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 S417TC buses manufactured August 2, 2010, to October 3, 2011, and 2012 Setra S407CC buses manufactured August 2, 2010, to July 4, 2011, and equipped with certain Recaro Ergo-M Commercial Bus Driver Seats. The affected seats have J-Brackets that may be missing welds which could allow the seat belt anchorage assembly to separate from the J-Bracket.
The risk
If the seatbelt anchorage assembly separates from the J-Bracket, the bus driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash increasing their risk of injury.
The remedy
Setra will notify owners, and the seats will be inspected to determine if any welds are missing. Any J-Bracket that is missing welds will be removed and replaced, free of charge. The recall began on February 24, 2016. Owners may contact Setra customer service at 1-800-241-2947 or Recaro customer service at 1-248-484-3203. Setra's number for this recall is 91.10U10086A.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V022000.
