Gillig LLC: Seats
Gillig LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 13, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6,734. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Gillig LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 Low Floor transit buses manufactured April 1, 2010 to October 30, 2015, equipped with Recaro Ergo-M Commercial Bus Driver Seats. The affected seats have J-Brackets that may be missing welds which could allow the seat belt anchorage assembly to separate from the J-Bracket.
The risk
If the seatbelt anchorage assembly separates from the J-Bracket, the bus driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash increasing their risk of injury.
The remedy
Gillig will notify the owners, and dealers will inspect the seats to determine if welds are missing. Any J-Bracket that is missing welds will be removed and replaced, free of charge. The recall began on March 1, 2016. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V011000.
