NHTSA campaign 16V003000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Foretravel, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Foretravel, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 5, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 23. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Foretravel, Inc. (Foretravel) is recalling certain model year 2008 Nimbus motorhomes manufactured July 9, 2007, to March 25, 2008. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.

The risk

Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

The remedy

Foretravel will notify owners and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 20, 2016. Owners may contact Foretravel customer service at 1-936-564-8367, or Lippert customer service at 1-574-537-8900.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V003000.
