NHTSA campaign 16E061000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc.: Seats

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 11, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 111. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is recalling certain Coast to Coast accessory passenger seats, manufactured November 18, 2015, to April 4, 2016, and sold for use on Can-Am Spyder F3-series motorcycles. When a passenger is sitting on the accessory seat, the seat may not activate a switch that changes the vehicle stability system to compensate for a passenger being on board.

The risk

If the vehicle stability system is not altered, the operator may lose control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

BRP has notified owners, and dealers will modify the seat to correct the issue, free of charge. The recall began July 22, 2016. Owners may contact BRP customer service at 1-888-272-9222.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16E061000.
