NHTSA campaign 15V888000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Gillig LLC: Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Gillig LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 30, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 16. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Gillig LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Low Floor vehicles manufactured November 20, 2014, to June 2, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with front brake chambers with an incorrect drain hole orientation. This can allow water to build up within the brake chamber, causing corrosion, deterioration, and reduce braking ability.

The risk

Corrosion, part deterioration, or frozen water in the brake chamber may reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Gillig will notify owners and the brake chambers will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on March 1, 2016. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V888000.
