(Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Sightseer, Vista, and Adventurer motorhomes manufactured August 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015, and 2015-2016 Itasca Sunova, Sunstar, and Suncruiser motorhomes manufactured August 1, 2014, through August 31, 2015. The affected vehicles have electrically operated entry/exit steps that may extend down and out while the vehicle is moving.

The risk

If the steps extend while the vehicle is being driven, the steps may strike a person or another vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

The remedy

Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will replace the step switch connections at no charge. The recall began on February 12, 2016. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V866000.
