NHTSA campaign 15V850000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc.: Fuel System, Diesel

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 18, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9,456. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 FEC52, FEC72, FEC92, and FGB72 trucks manufactured April 8, 2011, to July 22, 2014. The affected vehicles have a fuel return hose that may deteriorate due to being exposed to chemicals or lubricants, causing the hose to swell and detach.

The risk

If the fuel hose detaches a fuel leak may result, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel return hose, replacing it with an improved hose, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 15, 2016. Owners may call MFTA customer service at 1-877-711-0707. MFTA's number for this recall is C1008210.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V850000.
